Received from Scott Grace email Scott Grace
I have just received information from one of my colleagues in sports coach UK of a bursary scheme open to coaches that may be of interest to you and your club coaches.
The application closing date is 12th May so there is only a limited amount of time remaining.
Please except my apologies for the delay in sending this information through but hopefully a few of your coaches will be able to apply.
I have copied all the relevant links and information from the website and attached below.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like any advice on this matter
Sponsored by SkillsActive and awarded by the Nancy Ovens Trust, the bursary is aimed at paid or voluntary coaches and leaders in the active leisure and learning sector.
As a former board member of SPRITO (the national training organisation, and SkillsActive’s predecessor), Nancy Ovens MBE was an enthusiastic supporter of education, training and development of skills in the active leisure and learning sector.
The Nancy Ovens Trust was formed by Nancy’s family, friends and colleagues after she sadly passed away as a way of celebrating and recognising all the work she had done to inspire and motivate change for children and young people. Nancy championed the development of work-based skills in the sport and leisure industry and contributed significantly to improvements in services over the years.
To find out more about the Nancy Ovens Trust, visit their website www.nancyovenstrust.org.uk
SkillsActive is delighted to once again offer the bursary on behalf of the Nancy Ovens Trust, to help a coach or leader working with young people in the sector to enhance their own skills and knowledge by taking part in studies, work experience or activities outside of their day-to-day job.
The bursary, awarded annually, will be worth up to £2,000 and may be used by the selected individual(s) to undertake training or an alternative work experience within the UK or EU. The Nancy Ovens Trust and SkillsActive will appoint a mentor for the period of the bursary. For examples of what previous applicants have used their funding for, and the ideas that the panel judging the applications are looking for, visit the 2006, 2007 or 2008 bursary pages.
The bursary offers applicants the opportunity to tailor their own experience in a way that will be most beneficial to their career/voluntary activity. We look for intuitive ideas that demonstrate the motivation and drive of applicants and are therefore flexible in terms of proposed experiences as long as they match the required criteria. This could present a chance to see how your industry is operated in a different culture or community or to take that learning break from your day job!
Good luck applying!
In 2008 we received a number of applications that did not meet the criteria laid out on these web pages, and for future applications it is worth visiting the 2006,
2007 or
2008
bursary pages to see the sort of ideas that the selectors are looking for.
Click here to read over the application criteria and then click here to apply online, applications are to be submitted no later than 12 May 2009.
